Hugh L. Jones, Sr.

Mr. Hugh L. Jones, Sr. of Boyd Creek Drive in Ridgeland died early Wednesday morning in the Ridgeland Nursing Center.

Mr. Jones was born in Hardeeville, November 16, 1934, a son of the late Charles Martin Jones and Corrine Brabham Jones.  He was a truck driver with Nettles Oil Company, and had retired from the Ridgeland National Guard Unit after 40 years of service with the Rank of First Sergeant.  He was a member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, had also worked with C.S.X. Railroad, the Postal Service and was a member of the Ridgeland Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are:  His wife:  Gladys Nelms Jones of Ridgeland;  Son:  Hugh L. Jones, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Sumter;  Daughter:  Patricia Vivian Lanier and husband Bryan of Millen, Georgia;  Stepchildren:  Rhonda Malphrus and husband John of Ridgeland, Lorraine Mixon and husband Don of Brunson, and Dee Ann Sanders and husband Miles of Ridgeland:  Step daughter-in-law Tselane Smith of Ehrhardt.  There are 4 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren.  Mr. Jones was predeceased by a stepson:  Wayne Smith, two brothers, two sisters and one half brother.

Funeral services will be 4 P.M. Sunday in the Coosawhatchie Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Allen Perry with burial in the Grahamville Cemetery near Ridgeland with Masonic Rites, directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton.

Visitation will be Sunday beginning at 3 P.M. prior to services at the Coosawhatchie Baptist Church.
