Horace D. "HD" Schaffer, of Varnville died on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 11 AM at Spirit of Life Ministries in Varnville. Burial, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington will follow in Cook Hull Schaffer Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 PM on Monday, October 25, 2021 at Spirit of Life Ministries Church in Varnville.

Horace known as "HD" to everyone was born in Hampton County. He was the son of the late Horace and Elmina Barnhill Schaffer. He served his country in the United States Army in Korea in the 1970's. HD worked for Daniel's Construction with Dupont in Florence and taught Building Construction with Wade Hampton High School in Varnville, SC until he retired. He was a member of Spirit of Life Ministries. HD enjoyed watching westerns, riding around town and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Nancy Carraway Schaffer; his children, April Lynch, Crystal (Benji) Ginn, and Heather Schaffer all of Varnville; his grandchildren, Josh (Amber), Kaleb, Emma, Ansley, Bailey, and Kaedyn; his great grandchild, Tillman; his brother, David (Ruth Ann) Schaffer of Varnville; and his sisters DiAnne (Roy) Cook, Bet Cook both of Varnville, and Midge Mesanko of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews.

HD was preceded in death by his siblings, Rudolph Schaffer, Lucy McAlister, Foy Schaffer, Shirley Reed, Barbara Pearson, Judy Cook and Rosa Schaffer.
