Heyward Breland

Mr. Clyde Heyward Breland, Jr., "Heyward", of Nixville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 08, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 19, 1948, Heyward dedicated his life to service, both in the military and in his community.  Heyward was born in Nixville, the son of Clyde Heyward Breland, Sr. and Anna-Lee Long Breland.  He graduated from Estill High School and then served in the Army during the Vietnam War.  He later attended Orangeburg Technical College where he studied agriculture.  Heyward operated his family well drilling business, Breland Well Drilling, for 52 years, providing water for his community and surrounding areas.  Heyward enjoyed fishing and hunting, he took numerous trips to Lake Okeechobee to fish with family and friends throughout his life.  He loved watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys.  Heyward could often be found in his backyard observing wildlife, especially his beloved hummingbirds.  He was a quiet person with a quick-witted sense of humor that could make anyone laugh.  He was a generous person and the first to help a family member or friend in need.

Heyward was predeceased in death by his parents, Clyde and Anna-Lee Breland; his wife, Carole Hansen Breland.  He is survived by his brother, Bill Breland; sister, Gloria Grovenstein; daughter, Angela Blackson (Kevin); grandchildren, Craig Kendrick, Brittany Kendrick, Gage Blackston, and Caroline Blackston; and numerous other family members and friends.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

A visitation will be on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton.

Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home is assisting the Breland family during this time.
