Mr. Herbert Syril Godley, Jr., 74, resident of Elm Street West in Hampton, husband of Patricia B. Godley, passed away Wednesday evening, February 18, 2026, at his residence.
Born November 8, 1951, in Hampton, Mr. Godley was the son of the late Herbert Syril Godley, Sr. and the late Hallie Mae Chassereau Godley. He was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School in Varnville and worked many years as an electrician – notably for Georgia Pacific and Elliott Sawmill in Estill, where he retired. Mr. Godley enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening over the years. Additionally, he will be remembered for his love of sports such as football, softball, and especially his love of the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Mr. Godley was a member of West End Baptist Church in Hampton.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Patricia Mae Braxton Godley, of the home, are his sons, Herbert Syril Godley, III (Amanda) of Grays and Kelly Bryan Godley of Columbia; his adored grandchildren: Courtney Godley of Hampton, Kylie (Adrian) Godley of Columbia, Jordan (Carlton) Bowers of Grays, Kacie Bowers (John) of Nixville, and Alexis Smith (Travis) of Ellabell, GA, and 9 great-grandchildren: Brinley, Declan, Micah, Karter Mae, Anthony, Isabella, Isla, Kacyn, and Teegan. There is also one great-grandchild on the way. Mr. Godley is also survived by two special cousins, I.W. Mathis of Hampton and Gene Mathis of Atlanta, GA as well as two longtime friends, O.C. Evans of Grays and Willie Haynes of Varnville.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Godley is predeceased by an infant son and a half-brother, Herbert Roberts.
Graveside Services will be 11:30 AM, Saturday, February 21, 2026, in the St. Paul Cemetery in Hampton, conducted by Rev. Heyward Evans and Rev. Joseph Williams.
Visitation will be from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry St. W., Hampton, SC 29924.
