Henry Varn Cummings

Mr. Henry “Varn” Cummings, a resident of Varnville, SC and husband of Rita Cummings, died June 24, 2026, at his residence after an extended illness.

Varn was born in Colleton County on January 8, 1954, to the late Jesse Franklin Cummings, Jr. and Laurine Varn Cummings. He was the former owner/operator of Hoocum Mechanical Contractors of Hampton. Varn was also a tree farmer and enjoyed every stage of the timber growing process.

Varn’s relationship with Jesus Christ was the most important thing to him in his life. His motto was “to know Christ and to make him known”.

Varn had been involved in many different ministries over the past 30 plus years. He was also a street evangelist having ministered for many years with Christian teams on the streets of Daytona Beach, Florida during bike weeks and at the Mardi Gras festivals in New Orleans as well as many other venues.

Varn was a very kind and compassionate man often helping others in their time of need.

Surviving is his wife of 24 years, Rita Cummings, their children, Laura Balgari (David), Christie Cummings, Luke Mole (Misty), and Natalie Litvinas (Matt); and grandchildren, Shana Balgari, Rebecca Balgari, Magnus Litvinas and Lucille “Lucy”Litvinas, along with his brother Jesse Franklin Cummings, III (Lina).

Funeral Services will be 11 AM Monday, June 29, 2026, in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry St. W., Hampton, SC 29924. Burial will follow in the Steep Bottom Baptist Church Cemetery near Estill, SC.

Visitation will be from 4 PM – 7 PM Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, 300 Mulberry St. W., Hampton, SC 29924.

Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home is assisting the Cummings family during this time.
