Henry Crouch

Henry Lafeyette Crouch of West Columbia, SC passed away peacefully early Sunday morning on August 13, 2023.  Mr. Crouch was born on June 17, 1943 son to the late Jacob Elmo Crouch and Kathryn Jones Crouch.  He and his late brother, Roger Crouch, were raised in New Holland, SC by his grandparents Oscar and Betty Jones.  Mr. Crouch graduated from the University of Tennessee and then worked most of his career as a salesman at Ben Arnold Company located in Columbia, SC.  He married the late Phyllis Tuten Crouch in 1968 and the couple celebrated fifty-three years of marriage before her passing in 2021.

Henry Crouch was a person who truly cherished his friendships maintaining several lifelong bonds with people he met in early grade school.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed dove hunting, saltwater fishing, shrimping, and skeet shooting in his spare time.  Mr. Crouch was an experienced marksman and once won a national skeet shooting championship in his adulthood.  Most evenings Henry could be found sitting at his spot on the couch working the daily crossword puzzle published in The New York Times and State Newspaper.  He had an impeccable sense of direction and was a walking Rand McNally map for most of the state of South Carolina.  Being a salesman, Henry loved haggling over a price and in retirement enjoyed bargain hunting at thrift shops.  During his lifetime, some of his happiest moments were spent fishing and shrimping along the intercostal waterways around Bluffton, SC.

Survived by his two daughters Stacey Kathryn Gambrell and husband Thomas William Gambrell of Raleigh, NC and Jody Elizabeth Crouch of Charleston, SC and grandchildren Elliott Winn Gambrell and Adeline Kathryn Gambrell.  Graveside services will be held at Sandy Run Cemetery in Hampton, SC on August 18, at 10:00am.
