Mr. Gordon Anthony Harvey, 65, of Hampton, SC, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, September 18, 2021, surrounded by his loving family after a heroic nine year battle with cancer.
He was born June 15, 1956 to the late Alice H. and Manley Harvey and was raised in Cummings, SC. Mr. Harvey attended Hampton County schools and graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1974. Gordon joined the U.S. Navy in 1975 where he gave over twenty years of service until his retirement. He resumed his career with Trident Refit Facility (Naval Submarine Base), Kings Bay, GA, as an electrician. He enjoyed fishing on the Combahee River, hunting, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed drinking coffee and serving on the "Cummings Town Council" at Shuman's Stop and Shop every morning with his friends. He was a member of Deep Branch Baptist Church.
On April 30, 1982, Gordon married Sue Grubbs and together they raised three children, Claudia (Tommy) Brunson of Hampton, Benjamin (Mandy) Harvey of Yemassee and John (Louise) Gregory of West Ashley. He is also survived by the lights of his life, grandchildren Scout and Lockwood Harvey; his siblings Lee (Charlotte) Harvey, Vivian Nissley and Rose Marie Reeves, all of Cummings; as well as several nieces and nephews and his two faithful companions Molly and Rudy, who never left his side.
Private services for the family will be held at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Allen Cook and Charles (Chuckie) Heape.
