Glenn Mccrary

Charles Glenn McCrary formerly of Furman, South Carolina, passed peacefully at his daughter's home in Greenville, South Carolina on May 12, 2026. Glenn was born on December 12, 1949, in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Glenn grew up in Melbourne, Florida, where surfing and football became lifelong stories. As a young man, he spent countless days visiting Estill, South Carolina, before ultimately deciding to make Estill his home. He attended Estill High School, where he proudly played football for the Gators. One legendary game became part of family lore after Glenn had several teeth knocked out on the field and later joked about meeting his future dentist there. Glenn carried both the memories and the stories with pride for the rest of his life. Estill is also where Glenn built the friendships that would shape his life. Alongside his lifelong friends and his beloved "JE", they created memories centered around family, laughter, and tradition. The family's love of water and boating offered adventures; from Chechessee, to The Savannah, and Edisto Rivers weekends were filled with nonstop fun. Glenn would intentionally "beach" the family pontoon to enjoy the salt, sand, and shell hunting. Those weekends became treasured traditions that reflected Glenn's deep love for connection, storytelling, and togetherness.

Glenn, along with his brothers, Randy and Dwayne, and mother, Evelyn, ran the family owned and operated business McCrary's Incorporated, established by "Big Mack" in 1958. More than anything, though, he was a devoted father. After losing the love of his life far too soon, Glenn raised his three children, Kristan "Pete", Karla "Dooney-Bird", and Mac "Roni" on his own with unwavering dedication, humor, strength, and love. He was fun-loving and quick with a nickname. His laughter, stories, and larger-than-life personality left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Glenn is survived by his two loving daughters, Kristan McCrary (Philip) of Greenville, South Carolina and Karla McCrary Harriott (Cary) of Estill. He leaves behind his grandchildren who adored his art of whistling: Hance, Rowe, Coleman, MaryHarrison, Lucy, Crew, Bo, Ford, and Baylor. As well as numerous siblings, and a host of McCrary and Mixon loved ones.

Glenn is preceded in death by his wife "JE" Janet Ellen Mixon McCrary and their son Charles Maxwell "Mac" McCrary (ZoE). His mother, Maggie Lorraine Bishop; and his father, Charles Wilbur "Mack" McCrary (Evelyn).

The family would also like to extend heartfelt gratitude to a special family friend and Glenn's sitter, Dawn M, and to Joni and Phil T, all of Greenville, SC, for their support, compassion, and dedication to Glenn's care.

Glenn's legacy will live on through his girls, grandchildren, family, lifelong friends, and the countless memories shared on the water, around football fields, fishing ponds, campfires, and kitchen tables. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. And may we all remember, as Glenn always said, to "Be Cool".

Memorial Services will be 11 AM Thursday, May 21, 2026, in the Stafford Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.
