Gettis Donald Smith

Mr. Gettis Donald Smith of Cat Branch Road near Early Branch, died Wednesday morning at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born Sept. 8, 1942 in Jasper County, a son of the late Preston and Hattie Robinson Smith. He retired from the Westinghouse Plant in Hampton as a Machine Operator, and had served in the Army. He was a member of the Pine Level Baptist Church, and enjoyed Fishing, Hunting, and Camping.

Surviving are: His wife: Virginia Lightsey Smith of Early Branch; Son: Gettis Donald Smith Jr. and wife Kim of Early Branch; Daughters: Karen Sauls and husband Jake Jr. of Brunson, Connie Smith and husband Glenn of Grays, and Cathy Harriott and husband Wayne of Varnville; Brother: Tommy Smith of Grays; Sister: Helen Crosby of Brunson; Grandchildren: Derrick Smith and wife Fallon, Lance Smith and wife Michaela, Brook Mason and husband Joshua, Paige Sauls, Hillary Mixson and husband Nathan, and Zachary Smith; Great Grandchildren: Sophie Smith, J.J. Crapse, Ethan Crapse, Aiden Crapse, Wyman Mason, Garrett Mason, and Wrenly Mixson.

Mr. Smith was predeceased by a Brother: John Rufus Smith, and Sisters: Louise Mixson and Bobbie Jean Kinard, and Great Granddaughter: Kelly Smith.

Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Allan Cook, with burial in the Grimes Cemetery.

Visitation will begin Sunday at the funeral home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton at 12 noon prior to the services.
