Mr. Gerard Benjamin "G.B." Cummings, Sr., 97, of Belger Street in Varnville, died Saturday afternoon at the home of his son in Varnville.
Mr. Cummings was born in Lodge, October 10, 1920, a son of the late Henry Herber Cummings and Deana Hiers Cummings. He was a contractor and had operated Cummings Repair Company for many years. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, and a member of the Varnville First Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Jennys Hunting Club.
Surviving are: son: Jerry Cummings, Jr and wife Diane of Varnville; daughter: Harriett C. Murdaugh and husband Ray of Hampton; and grandchildren: Michelle C. Harmon, Ray Murdaugh, III and wife Kim, and Karen M. Sooter and husband Jeremy. There are 5 great-grandchildren, 1 great, great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Cummings was predeceased by: his wife: Mamie Sue Belger Cummings; brothers: John Willie Cummings and Graham Cummings; and sisters: Ruth C. Bedingfield, Mildred C. Knight and Grace C. Wilson.
Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Tuesday in the Varnville Cemetery conducted by Rev. Joseph Williams and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home.
The family will visit with friends immediately following the service.
