Mr. George Terry Padgett, Jr., 84, resident of Sandy Run Road in Crocketville, husband of the late Mary Elaine Wynn Padgett, died Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in Colleton County.
Born July 13, 1941, in Hampton County, Mr. Padgett was a son of the late George Terry Padgett, Sr. and Harriett Veronica Thomas Padgett. He was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School class of 1959 and worked in several capacities throughout his life. Mr. Padgett proudly worked as an auctioneer for many years, worked as a farmer, served as a crop adjuster for the USDA farm service agency, and served a period of time as an officer for the Town of Hampton Police Department. In addition to his work, he will be remembered for the strong love he had for his family and as an avid hunter who killed approximately 370 deer in his lifetime.
Mr. Padgett was a member of Varnville First Baptist Church, attended Harmony Presbyterian Church, and was an active Mason for many years.
Surviving are his daughters: Cindy Harmon (Tom) of Charleston, Melanie Harriott (Eric) of Hampton, and Shannon Padgett of Hampton, as well as his beloved grandchildren: Landon, Corey, Holden, Morgan, Collin, and Ian.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Mary Elaine Wynn Padgett, he was predeceased by two children: Anthony Wayne Padgett and Mary Christine Padgett; 10 siblings: Harriett, Minnie Lee, John, Lula, Elizabeth, Thomas, Hartley, Clarence, Ben, and Margaret Anne, as well as a special aunt, Pearl Thomas.
Funeral Services will be 2 PM Monday, November 17, 2025, in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Dr. Tommy Kelly and Dr. Shirley Dempsey, Chaplain. Burial will follow in the Sandy Run Cemetery near Hampton with masonic rites.
Visitation will begin at 1 PM and last until the hour of the service in the chapel, located at 300 Mulberry St. W., Hampton, SC 29924.
