George Bowers

George Franklin Bowers, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; proud United States Army veteran; and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully at home on December 16, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. A man of deep faith, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to those he loved, George lived a life defined by service, integrity, and love. His steady presence, legendary storytelling, warm smile, and gentle spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. Born on January 21, 1931, in Hampton, South Carolina, George was the son of the late William Devan Bowers and Tiney Gooding Bowers. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Ralph Bowers, James "Mack" Bowers, Mattie Lee Bagwell, Verlean Deloach and Carolyn Stevens. On August 15, 1950, George answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He honourably served for 22 years, retiring with the rank of E-8 (First Sergeant). His distinguished military career included combat service in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. A Disabled American Veteran, George served with humility, courage, and unwavering dedication to God and country. While stationed in Mannheim, Germany, George met the love of his life, Brigitte Charlotte Maria Faigle. They were married on January 11, 1958, beginning a marriage of 67 years built on faith, commitment, and unconditional love. Together, they embraced military life and raised two children: George Heinrich Bowers, who preceded him in death on April 9, 1998, and Scarlet Erica Trudi Bowers. George was a beloved grandfather to Marlena Passante (Matthew) and Erika Parham (Christopher), whom he helped shape through his wisdom, guidance, and love. His time spent with his granddaughters brought him immense joy. He was a proud great-grandfather to Greyson Passante and joyfully awaited the arrival of his great-granddaughter (Baby Girl Parham). George had a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing, and few things brought him greater happiness than being outdoors or sharing stories about those adventures. A gifted builder and craftsman, he took great pride in his work and earned awards for building and remodeling at the Naval Weapons Station. The homes he built were among his proudest achievements. A man of faith, an outdoorsman, and a true leader of his family, George leaves behind a legacy of strength, devotion, and love. His family finds comfort in knowing that he has entered eternal rest, reunited with his beloved wife Brigitte and his son, and welcomed home by the Lord. Also left to cherish his memory is his sister, Patricia "Patsy" Lake, and his brother, Charles "Buddy" Bowers, along with many extended family members and friends.
Rest in peace, Opi. Your legacy of devotion, service, and stories will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved you, always.

Graveside Memorial Services and Inurnment for Mr. Bowers and his wife, Brigette, will be 11 AM Saturday, May 23, 2026, in the Bowers Cemetery near Brunson, SC.
