George Altman

Mr. George Henry Altman, 84, of Bonneau Beach, South Carolina, husband of Joan Dale Mitchum Altman entered into eternal rest Thursday, July 16, 2020 at home surrounded by his family.

Known and loved by many as "Bubba" he was born August 20, 1935 in Hampton County, son of the late William Raymond Altman and Ernestine Priester Altman.  He was a locomotive engineer.  George was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church and the South Carolina Public Railway Commission.  He served in the US Navy as an Aviation Electrician.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan; two daughters:  Windy Elizabeth Altman Smith (Scott) and Wanda Lynn Altman Barr (Eddie); four granddaughters:  Breanna Marie Barr (Travis), Regean Elizabeth Barr (Colby), Lindsey LeAnn Barr (Ethan) and Mackenzie Joan Smith; one grandson:  Chandler Altman Smith; four great-grandsons:  Maxson Edward Bryan, Cain Henry Bryan, Lane Donald Moore and Ethan William Bryan; and two sisters:  Gloria Bowers of Hampton and Joann Freeman of Mt. Pleasant.  He was predeceased by his brother, Martin William Altman and three sisters, Juanita Peeples, Lorain Priester and Marilyn Ward.

Graveside services will be 10 am Wednesday, July 22, 2020  at Sandy Run Cemetery, Sandy Run Road, Hampton, SC with Military Honors.  Visitation will be 5 to 8 pm Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
