Gene Upshaw

Mr. Gene Upshaw of 3rd Street in Varnville, passed away Friday Jan 27, 2023 in the Medical University Hospital in Charleston.

Mr. Upshaw was born Sept 14, 1941 in Hoffman, Oklahoma a son of the late Arthur Lee Upshaw and Sarah Johnnie Brown Upshaw. He was an Air Force Veteran, and had worked in Manufacturing most of his career. He enjoyed sports, especially Football and Baseball, and was a member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church and was a former Deacon.

Surviving are: Daughters: Debi Barnes and husband Larry of Hampton, and Robin Brown and husband Tony of Fairfax. Brother: Doyle Upshaw of Dewar, OK; Sister: Patricia Anderson of Okemah, Oklahoma; Grandchildren: Dylan Barnes and wife Nicole of Brunson, and Nancy Taylor Young and husband Clay of Fairfax; Three Great Grandchildren: Raegan, Charley, and Thomas.

Mr. Upshaw was predeceased by his wife of 34 years Nancy Ellen Whitmoyer Upshaw. Brothers: Lee, Bill and Jim Upshaw. Sister: Juanita Upshaw Cash. Parents: Arthur Lee Upshaw and Sarah Johnnie Brown Upshaw.

At the request of Mr. Upshaw there will be a private service held at a later date.
