Gene Freeman

Mr. Billy Gene Freeman, 77, of Luray Road near Brunson, died Thursday evening, March 18, 2021 at Hampton Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Freeman was born September 16, 1943 in Hampton County, a son of the late Tobey Freeman and Rodell Crosby Freeman.  He was the maintenance foreman with Fluor Daniels Construction Company and was president of the Freeman Hunting Club.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved all sports.  Mr. Freeman was a member of Brunson Baptist Church where he was active with the Men's Ministry.

Surviving is his wife, Juanita DeLoach Freeman of Brunson; daughter, Janet Chesser and husband Jerry of Brunson; sons, Brian K. Freeman, Sr. of Ruffin and Ulice "Trey" Sauls, III and wife Reagan of Atlanta; brother, Bobby Chesser and wife Maxine of Leesville;  sister, Verle Harrelson of Lexington; grandchildren, Christopher Chesser, Christina Chesser, Amber Morgan Freeman, Brian K. "Keith" Freeman, Jr, and Griffin Sauls; great-grandchildren, Gunner, Remi and Zayna Bridgers; as well as many nieces and nephews.  Mr. Freeman was predeceased by his parents and the following brothers and sisters:  Sara Freeman Templeton, Jake Chesser, Lil Freeman Youmans, Louise Freeman Hagee, Jacob Bruce "Frog" Freeman and Marvin "Peanut" Freeman.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Monday, March 22, 2021 at Brunson Baptist Church conducted by Rev. R.P. Hodge with burial in the Johnson-St. Paul Cemetery directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 21, 2021 from 4 to 6 PM at the Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
