Fred Charlie Smith

Mr. Fred Charlie Smith, 88, of Williams Street in Hampton, died Tuesday morning, January 21, 2020, in the Pruitt Health Care Facility in Savannah, Georgia.

Mr. Smith was born February 27, 1931 in Barnwell, a son of the late Ruth and Angie Stanley Smith.  He retired after a long career with CenturyLink Telephone Company as a technician.  He was a member of Pine Level Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and hunting.  He had served in the Army.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years Mary Evelyn Lightsey Smith of Hampton; daughters:  Mary Evelyn Smith Ginn and husband Lawrence of Varnville, Cathleen Dawn Smith James and husband Bill of Port Wentworth, Georgia, and Cynthia Smith Garvin of Hampton; sons:  Charles Edward Smith and wife Tracy of Franklin, Virginia and Fred Charlie Smith, Jr. and wife Sadonna of Grays; brothers:  Frank Smith of Grays and Harrison Smith of Ridgeland; sisters:  Annette Brown, Elaine Ginn and Elise Long, all of Nixville; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  Mr. Smith was predeceased by a great-grandson Eric Langford.

Funeral services will be 3 PM Thursday in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Frank Smith with burial in the Sandy Run Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday beginning at 1 PM prior to services at the Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
