ESTILL: Dawn Faith Brunson Crapse, of Estill, died Thursday, January 27, at Lowcountry Assisted Living in Ehrhardt. She entered her heavenly home after a ten-year Alzheimer's journey. She was 67 years old.
Dawn is survived by her husband Ray Crapse and their two sons, Dr. Trinity B. Crapse (Xueqi) of San Diego, CA, and Brent Crapse (fiancé Stephanie Sheffield) of Estill; and four grandchildren: Chloe Crapse, Walker Crapse, Chandler Crapse, and Avery Sheffield. She is also survived by her sister Sheryl and husband Fred Gray of Hampton; and sister Trish and husband Tommy Manuel of Elgin. Dawn was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard Hamilton (Ham) and Ethel Jane Clifton Brunson.
Dawn graduated from Estill High School and The University of South Carolina-Salkehatchie in Allendale. She met the love of her life, Ray, in high school and they married on December 23, 1972. She was employed by Farm Credit in Hampton for several years, and then put aside her career after the birth of Brent to become a full-time mom to her sons, while assisting Ray in the operations of the family farm.
Dawn later returned to the workplace, and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Varnville for sixteen years. She enjoyed meeting and greeting the public and serving her customers and friends during her career. She was a member of the Beech Branch Baptist Church near Luray.
Her grandchildren brought her such joy, and they loved spending time with and being spoiled by their "Nonna". Dawn loved her God, her family, her friends, and especially her pet cat, Pecan.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 30th from 5pm – 7pm, at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, 300 Mulberry St., West, in Hampton. A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 31st, at 2pm, at the Crapse Family Cemetery, 6618 Savannah Hwy, south of Hampton.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Lowcountry Assisted Living for their care of Dawn over the past years, as well as Edisto Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., FL. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or to the charity of one's choice.
