Mr. Glenn David Thames, Sr., 71, of Glen Street in Summerville, died Sunday evening, August 1, 2021 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Thames was born August 13, 1949 in Ridgeland, a son of the late Jimmy Donald Thames and Julia Lucille Cook Thames. He had served as a firefighter for the City of Charleston for 30 years and had retired as a Captain. He was a member of the South Carolina Firefighters Association.
Surviving is his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Bryant Thames of Summerville; daughters, Julia T. Hyman and husband Larry of Walterboro and Jenny Locklair and husband Jamie of Griffin, Georgia; brothers, Jimmy Thames and wife Kay of Brunson, Ray Thames and wife Brenda of Brunson, Rodney Thames of Fairfax and Donald Thames and wife Jessica of St. George; sisters, Sherry Gainey of Cottageville and Ann Pellum of Crocketville; brother-in-law, Tommy Reeves of Allendale; 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mrs. Thames was predeceased by a son, Glenn David Thames, Jr. and a sister, Barbara Reeves.
Graveside services will be 11 AM Friday, August 6, 2021 at Sandy Run Cemetery with Honors provided by the Charleston Fire Department.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 PM at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
