Danny Dean

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mr. Charles D. “Danny” Dean, 79, husband of Sandra Dean and resident of Locust Street West in Hampton, who departed this life after a hard battle with cancer.

Born September 8, 1946, in Ridgeland Hospital in Ridgeland, SC, Danny was the beloved son of the late Denzle “Dan” Luther Dean and Pauline Whitman Dean. He was a proud veteran who served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1964 to 1968. As an Engineman in District 5 stationed in Portsmouth, Virginia, Danny was dedicated to ensuring the safety of countless seafarers aboard the CG Cutter Conifer. His commitment extended to the Life Boat Stations along the North Carolina coast, where he participated in numerous search and rescue missions, attaining the rank of E4 upon separation.

In his professional life, Danny contributed to Georgia Pacific and the State Forestry Commission, where he was involved in tree development. He later transitioned to a rewarding career as an Electronic Engineer with LeSea Broadcasting, where he worked diligently until his retirement.

Danny was an active member of the Hampton First Baptist Church, the American Legion, and the Hardee’s Coffee Club. His genuine interest in others was a hallmark of his character. Danny had an exceptional gift for connecting with people, whether old friends or new acquaintances; finding common ground and engaging them with warmth and sincerity.

In addition to his wife with whom he shared an enduring marriage since December 31, 1969, Sandra Nix Dean, of the home; Danny is survived by his brothers, Paul Dean and Allen Dean and his wife Ann; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Dean and her friend John Stives; his granddaughters, Amber Dean and her partner Jason Szczepanski, and Alexus Dean. He was a doting great-grandfather to three great-grandsons, Ethan, Matthew, and Nicholas. Danny is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Danny and Dennis Nix, his sister-in-law, Lettie Ginn, Catherine Tuten, and Janice Beach; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

In addition to his parents, Danny was predeceased by his son, John “J.D.” Dean; his brother, Donald Dean; three brothers-in-law, Wayne Nix, George "Danny" Tuten, and Robert "Bob” Ginn; as well as two sisters-in-law, Amy "Ajay" Nix and Jaylene Dean.

Funeral Services held to honor Danny’s life will be 3 PM Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Hampton First Baptist Church, where he found spiritual fulfillment and community.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 8, 2026, beginning at 2 PM until the hour of the service in the church sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hampton First Baptist Church, 305 Oak St. E., Hampton, SC 29924; to the American Legion, P.O. Box 101, Hampton, SC 29924, or Stafford Cemetery, P.O. Box 85, Furman, SC 29921.

The Dean family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of ART Medical Center in Charleston, SC, Hampton Regional Medical Center in Varnville, SC, and Crescent Hospice for the care and support provided during Danny’s final days. The family would also like to send a very special thank you to the family, friends, and churches who prayed for both Danny and Sandra throughout this difficult time. It is those prayers that sustained them and got them through this period.

Danny’s legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace, knowing his spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
