Cranel Eugene "Gene" Smith

Mr. Cranel Eugene "Gene" Smith of Aiken Avenue South in Fairfax, died Tuesday afternoon at his mother's residence.

Mr. Smith was born in Hampton County June 22, 1973, a son of Margie "Libby" Herndon Smith and the late Virgil Eugene "Gene" Smith.  He had worked with the South Carolina Department of Transportation for 27 years as the Resident Maintenance Foreman and was a member of the Allendale County Fire Department for 10 years.  He had attended the Fairfax First Baptist Church.

Surviving besides his mother of Fairfax are:  His wife:  Dania Dawn Davis Smith of Fairfax;  Sons:  Dawson Eugene Smith and Ethan Cranel Smith both of Fairfax;  Sisters:  Margie Elaine Rooker and husband Jeff of Hampton and Cindy Hauptmann and husband Mike of Allendale;  Brother-in-law:  Jody Davis and wife Jennifer of Hampton;  Nieces and nephews:  Alex Innis, Zachary Davis, Tristan Davis, Jesse Rooker, Christy Rooker, Travis Hauptmann and Daniel Hauptmann.  Mr. Smith was predeceased by his grandparents:  Cranel B. Herndon, Margie Barnes Herndon, Joseph Adam Smith and Eula Mae Wilson Smith.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday in the Fairfax First Baptist Church conducted by Dr. David Janaro with burial in the Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 PM at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton and Saturday beginning at 1 PM in the church.
