Mr. Charles Ronald "Smoky" Graham, 86, resident of Charles Street in Bamberg, entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 20, 2025, at his home.
Born on April 9, 1938, in Uvalda Georgia, he was the son of the late Charles Lafayette and Zenobia Adams Graham. Educated in the Montgomery County, Georgia school system, Charles went on to serve in the United States National Guard. He married Honorie Smith in 1960 and they moved to Varnville, South Carolina where he worked many years full time for Westinghouse and part-time for the Varnville Police Department. In 1992, he married Mary Jane "Jan" Sandifer whom he remained married to until her death in July of 2022. Throughout his life, Smoky loved coaching softball, watching the South Carolina Gamecocks, fishing and cooking.
He was a former member of Varnville First Baptist Church and remained of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his two daughters, Wanda Simmons (Mickey) of Gillisonville, and Amy Steinmeyer of Varnville; a niece he raised as his own, Debbie Cody of Lake Murray; four grandchildren: Jason Ginn, Katie (J.P.) Powell, Jordan (Jeremy) Crosby, and Wilson Steinmeyer; two great grandchildren, Julian Powell and Hayes Crosby; one sister, Lois Conner of Lyons, Georgia, and several nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by five step-children and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Charles was predeceased by two brothers, Lemuel Graham and Wallace Graham.
Funeral Services will be held 2 PM Friday, January 24, 2025, in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Dr. Tommy Kelly. Burial will follow in the Varnville Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, prior to services in the Chapel located at 300 Mulberry St. W., Hampton, SC 29924.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice and caregiver Joye Gamble for their care of Mr. Graham over the past several years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish may send memorials in Mr. Graham's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
