Carol Craven Mixson, age 76, went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2023. She was born on October 31, 1947, in Colleton County, South Carolina, to Monie and Louise Craven.
Carol was a loving wife, caring mother, doting grandmother and great grandmother, joyful friend, talented seamstress, delicious cook, and faithful servant to the Lord. She was a devoted member of Spirit of Life where she led children's Sunday School for decades, teaching impressionable minds about our Redeemer and leaving a lasting legacy on God's Kingdom. She volunteered countless hours decorating the church for holidays and events. She never missed the opportunity to help out in the kitchen where everyone knew she was in charge. Wherever she went, Carol lived in humble servitude.
Carol loved spending time with her family and friends, especially at the Edisto River. She went above and beyond to provide the people she loved with precious memories, even if that meant sacrificing her wants and needs. She would spend weeks preparing the campers and spend hundreds of dollars on food but never once complained. Her silent sacrifices were often thankless, but it was all worth it for Carol to see a smile on the faces of her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Carol didn't miss church often, but the Spirit of Life congregation knew she would be out of church the two weeks she was at the river.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Frankie, and her beloved son Kevin Mixson. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jim E. Mixson, of Cummings; daughter, Deborah Crews, of Early Branch; granddaughter Valorie Kinard, husband Drayton, and daughters Charlee and Carter, of Hampton; grandson Colton Crews, wife Kaley, and sons Colton, Cooper, and Knox, of Islandton; granddaughter Brook Dennis and husband Joe, of Allendale; granddaughters Mariah, Abby, and Emma Mixson, of West Point, Virginia; grandson Preston Mixson, of West Point, Virginia; sister Ethel Erwin and husband Hubert, of Walterboro; sister Lynne Crosby and husband Paul, of Walterboro; brother Earl and wife Susie, of Walterboro; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her deeply.
Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Wednesday in the Spirit of Life Church, conducted by Rev. David Schaffer, with burial in the Deep Branch Cemetery directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton and Wednesday until 2:00 pm, when the casket will be placed in the church prior to services.
