Mrs. Beverly Mills of Bamberg Highway passed away Wednesday evening, November 22, 2023 at Hampton Regional Medical Center.
Beverly was born on January 05, 1946 in Loraine, KS to Reverend Fred and Inez Ferris. She spent her preteen years in the early 1950's in Western Liberia on the mission field with her missionary parents. After returning to the United States she graduated from Redford High School, then attended Asbury college in Wilmore, KY for one year and finished her RN degree in Detroit Michigan in 1969. She moved to Charleston, SC with her new husband in August 1969 and worked in Neonatal ICU at The Medical University Hospital until her husband finished school at the College of Dental Medicine. In 1972, she moved to Hampton and worked at Hampton General Hospital and helped deliver babies and care for newborns. She also, assisted local physicians with home deliveries. She and her mother would knit newborn caps and blankets and deliver them to hospitals to send home with new mom's. After retiring from nursing she started work at Drs. Crews and Mills where she retired in 2020.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Dr. Francis Mills, sons, Eric Scott Mills and wife Christina, Christopher Todd Mills and wife Priscilla, Tradd Asbury Mills and wife Cindy of College Station, Texas and daughter, Amy Mills Mixson and husband Josh of Cummings, a brother, Dr. Robert Ferris and wife Sue of Winston Salem, NC and sister, Margie Dawson and husband Dr. Larry Dawson of Atlanta, GA. There are nine grandchildren, Caitlyn, Addie, Kade, Payslee, Bella, Jesse, Storm, Kacy, Cameron and one great-grand, Elora.
Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Sunday in the Life Center at the Varnville First Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Dr. Thomas Kelly, with burial in the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday beginning at 2:00 pm at the Life Center, with direction by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home. The family suggests that those who wish may send memorials to Life Center Varnville First Baptist Church.
