Betty Ruth Shaffer Cook

Mrs. Betty Ruth Shaffer Cook, 84, of Cummings entered peacefully into her heavenly home after an extended illness Monday afternoon, December 12, 2022.

"Bet" as she was affectionately called, was born April 9, 1938 to the late Maggie Adams and Horace Donald Shaffer of Cummings, SC. She was a charter member of the Huggin Oak Church of God, which she dearly loved, serving as Sunday School teacher, choir member, and Ladies Ministries Member.  She was also a faithful Prayer Warrior.  She loved everyone she met and always saw the good in people.  She was a homemaker most of her life having worked outside of the home briefly.  She always put her family first, second only to God.

She leaves behind one daughter, Ruth Anne Crews (Gene) of Cummings; two sons, Donald Lee Cook (Chrissy) and Floyd Allen Cook (Karen) both of Cummings; seven grandchildren: Jamie Crews (Shelley), Chasity Nix (Travis), Bridgett McAlhaney (Jeffery), Hunter Cook, Faith Williams (Dustin), Allen Cook, Jr. (Courtney), and Brittany Cook Wells. Eight great-grands: Jade and Charley Nix, Finley McAlhaney, Haylen, Kinley, and Colton Cook, Ricky and Raylee Pope; her brother, David Schaffer (Ruth Ann) of Varnville; and her sisters DiAnne Cook (Roy) of Varnville and Midge Mesanko of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, J. Lee Cook and her siblings, Rudolph Schaffer, Lucy McAlister, Foy Schaffer, Shirley Reed, Barbara Pearson, Judy Cook, Rosa Rita Schaffer and H.D. Shaffer.

A Celebration of her life will be held at 3:00PM Wednesday at the Huggin Oak Church of God in Cummings. Conducted by Rev. Nelson Foster and Rev. David Shaffer, with burial in the Cook, Hull Shaffer Cemetery. Directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Agape Care Group of Beaufort, SC or Huggin Oak Church of God, Yemassee Hwy. Varnville, SC 29944. Visitation will be at the church Wednesday beginning at 2PM prior to the service.
