Bernie Edgar Richburg

Mr. Bernie Edgar Richburg, 92, of Pocotaligo Road near Hampton, SC, husband of Ida Green Richburg, died February 6, 2026, at his residence after a brief illness.

Born September 13, 1933, in Forreston, SC, he was the son of the late Rev. Hardy Richburg and Ruby Tobias Richburg. Mr. Richburg retired from both the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the South Carolina National Guard after many dedicated years of service. He was a hard worker and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Mr. Richburg was a dedicated member of Varnville First Baptist Church; where he served as a Deacon and was a faithful member of the Railroad Sunday School Class where he was a substitute teacher for many years. He was also active with the South Carolina Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, volunteering in numerous locations over the years.

Surviving besides his loving wife, Ida, of the home, are two sons, Col. (Ret.) Ronald Richburg and wife Doris of Burke, Virginia and Thomas Richburg of Hampton; one brother, Kerry Richburg of California; three grandchildren: Becky Negron (Mike) of Arizona, Mandy Richburg (Fox Chambers) of Virginia, and Brian Richburg (Mitanda) of Walterboro, and two great-grandchildren, Nathan Negron and Madison Richburg. There is also an adopted granddaughter who survives, MacKenzie Richburg of Inman, SC, daughter of his deceased nephew.

Graveside Services will be 3 PM Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in the Varnville Cemetery conducted by Rev. Dr. Tommy Kelly.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Purdy, Andrew Purdy, Paul Williams, Douglas Smith, Don Mixon, and Carter Mixon.

The family requests that those who wish send memorials to a charity of their choice.
