Bernice Terry

Mrs. Bernice Gertrude Bennett Terry, 87, of Bamberg Highway near Hampton, died Sunday evening, January 24, 2021 at her residence.

Mrs. Terry was born August 17, 1933 in Hampton County, a daughter of the late Henry Newton Bennett and Willie Ruth Murdaugh Bennett.  She was a seamstress and worked with several local companies in the area.  She had also worked on the Board of Disabilities and was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church.  Most importantly she was a homemaker and mother who was dedicated to caring for her youngest child, Gretta.

Surviving are:  her son Johnny Terry of Hampton; daughters:  Elaine King and special friend Larry Jarrell of Hampton, Trudy Murdaugh and husband Donald of Hampton, Tressy Wooten of Nixville and Gretta Terry of Hampton; sisters:  Carolyn B. Smith of Hampton and Frances S. Bennett of Varnville; grandchildren:  Kay, Candy, Travis, Michelle and Dawson;  and great-grandchildren:  Michael, Landon, Katelyn, MeKhi, Marya and JT.  Mrs. Terry was predeceased by her parents and two brothers: Otis and Glenn Bennett.

Graveside services will be 2 PM Thursday at Hickory Grove Cemetery conducted by Rev. R.P. Hodge and Chaplain Roy Guild and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton.

Visitation will be immediately following the service at the cemetery.
