It is with wonderful memories and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Bennie Lemuel "Pete" Moore, 89, of Varnville, SC who passed away peacefully at the John Edward Harter Nursing Center in Fairfax, SC on October 25, 2024.
Pete loved his family with all his heart. He was a devoted husband for 66 years to Dorothy Vincent Moore and a loving father to his three children, Pamela Ann Moore of Daphne, AL, Bennie Lemuel "Ben", Jr. (Debra) of Leesville, SC and Margaret Elizabeth "Beth" Moore of New York, NY. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Taylor Ann Moore of Warrenville, SC, John Samuel Moore and Emily Louisa Moore of Leesville, SC and his sister, Jeanette Hutchins of Columbia, SC. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Jennie Moore. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his loved ones in eternal peace.
Pete was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Hampton, SC, where he was an active member before his health declined, serving faithfully as a member of the men's Sunday School Class ministry building ramps for incapacitated local residents, an usher on Sunday mornings, and a deacon to various members of the church.
Born in Bamberg, SC in 1935, Pete was a lifelong resident of Hampton County and was a beloved figure who brought joy to every person he encountered, whether through a friendly smile, a joke or funny story, or a helping hand.
Pete worked as an auto mechanic in his early 20's and taught himself how to weld, for years building trailers in his backyard workshop. He also had a lengthy career with Reichhold Chemicals in Hampton, retiring as plant manager in 1994.
Pete was also the owner of several businesses, one of which was Moore's Enterprises where he sold golf carts with a charm all his own. In fact, he was locally known as "The Golf Cart Man." But more than a businessman, he was a friend to his customers and a staple of the community. His laughter filled the room, his humor brightened the day, and his positive spirit was infectious.
So even though we mourn his passing and will miss him dearly, we celebrate a long life well-lived and are grateful for the memories that we will carry forward, enriched by having known and loved him.
Funeral Services will be 2 PM, Thursday, October 31, 2024, in the First Baptist Church of Hampton conducted by Rev. Emerson Wiles. Burial will follow in Hampton Cemetery.
