Rev. William Barney Tuten, Sr., 87, of Daley Road in Scotia, died Friday afternoon, December 4, 2020 in the Hampton Regional Medical Center.

Rev. Tuten was born September 28, 1933 in Scotia, a son of the late Redden Tuten, Sr. and Virie Crosby Tuten.  He was an Army Veteran and was presently a member and former Pastor of West End Baptist Church in Hampton.

Rev. Tuten was called into the ministry in 1969 while attending Robertville Baptist Church.  His ministry spanned 51 years.  During those years he had served as Pastor at Cypress Creek Baptist Church, Scotia Baptist Church, Deep Branch Baptist Church and West End Baptist Church.  He was a bi-vocational Minister, and along with his wife, owned and operated Sooper Dooper Grocery Store in Hampton.  He  loved farming, carpentry, fishing and hunting, but most of all he dearly loved his family.

Surviving is his wife:  Leah Hadwin Tuten of Scotia; son:  William Barney Tuten, Jr. of Scotia and friend Terry Futch Harriott of Early Branch; daughter:  Jeanie T. Hodge and husband R.P. of Brunson; sisters:  Irene Barker of Estill and Hattie Stanley of Varnville; brothers:  Redden Tuten, Jr. and wife Gloria of Estill and Wilbur Tuten and wife Aileene of Estill; grandchildren:  Joshua Cooke and wife Kali, Matthew Cooke and wife Kendyl, Jeremy Hodge and wife Amanda, Jonathan Hodge and wife Kayli, Justin Hodge, Lindsay Tuten and Will Tuten; eight great-grandchildren; son-in-law:  Dennis Cooke of Bluffton; and sister-in-law:  Catherine Tuten of Estill.  Rev. Tuten was predeceased by a daughter:  Debbie T. Cooke; sister:  Clotele Hadwin; and a brother:  Danny Tuten.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton conducted by Rev. R.P. Hodge and Rev. George McDowell with burial following in the Robertville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM Sunday, December 6th, at the Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
