Barney Mcclure Stanley

Mr. Barney Stanley of Elm Street West, Hampton, SC passed away Monday morning, October 30, at his residence.

Barney was born in Ridgeland, SC on August 21, 1949.  He was the youngest child born to Thomas "Mutt" Stanley, Sr. and Ailie Floyd Stanley of Hampton.  Barney and his siblings grew up in their family drug store business; each of them taking turns working their many different jobs.  Stanley's Drug Store was known for their coffee clubs, sandwiches, gifts and prescriptions.  Barney's job was mainly waiting on customers wanting a good cup of coffee and a funny joke or story that only Barney could tell.

Barney graduated from Patrick Henry Academy in 1970.  He furthered his education at OC Tech in Orangeburg graduating in 1972.  He was employed with Utica Tool and Die Company in Orangeburg until operation ceased.  Barney then returned to Hampton and began working at Elliott's Sawmill in Estill on November 01, 1994 and continued employment there when Canfor took over operation.  He loved his work family and enjoyed taking them newspapers and treats until April 2021.

Barney was frequent customer of several local restaurants and businesses.  He enjoyed his early morning cups of coffee while "cutting up" with the employees and chatting with his buddies.  He also enjoyed Subway for his ham and cheese sub; often times the girls would have it fixed as he was walking in.  Barney especially loved Rigdon's Fried Chicken and his usual four chicken thighs order.  Although he loved the chicken; he truly loved the love he received from Mrs. Penny and Mrs. Cynthia and staff.  He enjoyed visiting with Mrs. Lynn on Fridays at the bank and traveling up to Ace Hardware to purchase treats for Sally, his work wives, Brant and Lyndsey, their children and grands.

Barney is survived by his oldest brother, Thomas Griffin "Griff" Stanley, Jr. of Tuscaloosa, AL and his sister, Sally Stanley Dobson of Hampton, SC.  His niece, Laura Stanley VandePlanque and husband Michael of Eatonton, GA.  His nephews, Thomas Griffin Stanley, III and his wife Pam of Tuscaloosa, AL and Brantley "Brant" Griffin Dobson and his wife Lyndsey of Crocketville, SC.  Also, his great niece, Katherine Elizabeth Stanley of Tuscaloosa, AL, great nephews, Thomas Griffin "Griff" Stanley, IV of Tuscaloosa, AL, James Michael VandePlanque,  William Thomas VandePlanque and John Charles VandePlanque all of Eatonton, GA, Taylor Lee Dobson and wife Kayla of Brunson, SC, Casyn Hayne Dobson and wife Belle of Bamberg, SC and Ryland Emory Dobson and girlfriend Kaitlyn Lawson of Crocketville, SC, great great nephews:  Bentley Avery Dobson, Cooper Brinkley Dobson and Shuler Griffin Dobson all of Brunson, SC.  Barney was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Allan "Bubba" Floyd Stanley and Philip Hayne Stanley and his sister in law, Phyllis Miglarese Stanley.
