Barbara Elaine Lomax, nee Garber, born April 4, 1943 in Canton, OH, passed away February 17, 2023 from a short illness at her home in Hampton, SC surrounded by her family.
Barbara was a 1961 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School. In the early 1960's Barb was a hairdresser in Norfolk, VA. She then resided in Avon Lake, OH where she raised her family, and was a library aide at ALHS and then a CSR at EST Bank. On October 6, 1990 Barb married her loving Husband James A. Lomax. Barbara & James owned and ran the Frederick Fitting House Bed & Breakfast in Bellville, OH. They retired to Shepherd, MT, followed by their move to Hampton, SC. Barbara enjoyed gardening, traveling, collecting agates along the Yellowstone River, collecting seashells on the beach, music, reading, fishing & others hobbies & interests, but her family was her heart and life.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents Alpheus W. and Mildred A. Garber nee Graber. She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Elsie Garber, by her sister Judith L. Mielke nee Garber, and by her stepbrother Richard E. Lomax.
In addition to her husband Jim, her son John D. McClenahan (Darcy) of Billings, MT, and her daughter Jeannie D. Milota nee McClenahan (Ken) of Mount Pleasant, SC, she is survived by her sister, Marilyn J. Gunn nee Garber of Columbus, OH, by her stepbrother William Lomax, of N.Y., and by her stepchildren Melissa Speelman nee Lomax (Joe) of Cincinnati, OH, Rebecca Dugan nee Lomax (Jon) of Chicago, IL, and Michael Lomax (Lori) of Columbus, OH. There are seventeen grandchildren: Jordan, Samuel, Gabbrielle, Isaac, Cory, Truitt, Owen, Elle, Margot, Jeremiah, Robert, Desi, Sadie Ivan, Everett, Oliver, Sullivan. There are four great grandchildren: Jaliah, Jesslyn, Robert, Katalynna. Barbara has a great granddaughter due in April and a great grandson due in July.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning, February 20, 2023 at 11:00 in the chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date in Mansfield, Ohio. Visitation will begin Monday morning at 10:00 prior to the service.
