Barbara Virginia Peeples Crosby from Brunson, SC was born August 24, 1936 in Hampton, SC. She died December 17, 2019 in West Columbia, SC. Barbara, known by her family and childhood friends as "Bobbie", grew up in Hampton, the daughter of the late Miles Edgar Peeples, Sr. and the late Evadna Mae Fennell Peeples. She graduated from Hampton High School in the Class of 1954. After graduating she married the late J.C. Crosby and began her life in Brunson, SC. She worked for years as the church secretary for Brunson Baptist Church. When her children graduated from school, Barbara decided to start working on a life-long dream and began studying piano. She worked on her piano skills and enrolled in music classes at USC, eventually she began teaching piano to children and adults in the Hampton County area. She also became involved in the South Carolina Piano Festival Association. She was the pianist and choir director for Brunson Baptist Church until the time of her death. Barbara spent her entire life hearing stories about her ancestors from her mother, which led to her becoming interested in genealogy, an interest she continued until her death and shared with her eldest daughter.
Barbara is survived by two daughters: Judith Crosby of Columbia, SC, and Kathy Crosby of Bennettsville, SC; a son Steve Crosby and his wife Sherry of Varnville, SC; three granddaughters: Rachel, Jacey and Stephanie Crosby of Brunson, SC; a step-grandson Cody Cain and his wife Glennda; two step-granddaughters: Amanda Murdock Jarrell and her husband Forrest Jarrell and Savannah Murdock; 3 step great-grandchildren: Kyleah, Morgyn and Colten Cain; two brothers: Miles Edgar Peeples, Jr. and his wife Agnes of Varnville, SC and Cecil Peeples and his wife Caroline of West Columbia, SC; and a sister Gloria Brown and her husband Lloyd of Islandton, SC. In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by an infant daughter and a sister Betty Peeples Tuten.
A memorial service will be held on December 28, 2019 at 2 PM at Brunson Baptist Church, 63 South Manker Street, Brunson, SC. A private burial will be held at Johnson-St. Paul Cemetery.
