Aubrey Eugene "Gene" Shaffer

Mr. Aubrey Eugene "Gene" Shaffer, 64, of Laverne Road near Hampton, died Tuesday morning at his residence after an extended illness.

Mr. Shaffer was born August 2, 1954 in Jasper County, a son of the late Charles Clevie Shaffer and Lillie Rose Tant Shaffer.  He retired from Georgia Pacific in Rincon, Georgia.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, was a member of Deep Branch Baptist Church and had served in the United States Navy.  Mr. Shaffer had coached Little League sports in the Hampton County area for many years, was an avid Gamecock fan and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

Surviving are his wife:  Tammy Williams Shaffer of Hampton;  son:  Brian Shaffer and girlfriend April Murdaugh of Early Branch;  daughters:  Jennifer S. Madura and husband Ricky of Hampton, Jessica Cook and husband Jamie of Hampton, Shannon Shaffer and boyfriend Nicholas Ginn of Varnville, and Gina Brooke Shaffer of Hampton;  brother:  Ricky Shaffer of Greer;  grandchildren:  Caroline Grace Cook, Karlie Kinard, Ashton Madura, Hunter Cook, Ashlynn Madura, Owen Shaffer, Lily Bowers, Rylee Ginn, Austin Ginn and Wesley Ginn;  nephews:  Nat, Zachary and Joshua Shaffer;  father-in-law:  Laverne Williams of Hampton; and his loyal dog, Whitey.  Mr. Shaffer was predeceased by a brother, Charles C. Shaffer, Jr.

Funeral services will be 11 AM  Friday in the Spirit of Life Ministries Church conducted by Rev. David Schaffer with burial in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 PM at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
