Anna Sue Rivers

Anna Sue Heins Rivers died peacefully after a short illness on August 6. Born in Estill, South Carolina on October 14, 1928 to Charles and Erlene Harrington Heins, she grew up in Hampton, South Carolina. She married her beloved husband, Jacob Henry Rivers, on April 14, 1947.  They have three daughters, Susan Clamp (Tom), Janette Moloney (Mike), Carolyn Rivers (Henk Brandt); two grandchildren, Meredith Ware Avant (Chris), Christopher Ware (Lacey), and four great-grandchildren (Sage, Wren, Piper, and Mayva). She is survived by her brother Charles Wesley Heins.  She is predeceased by her sister Mary Lou Heins Burts.

Mrs. Rivers will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and as a dedicated friend and community leader.  She enjoyed a career at Lightsey Brothers Railroad before her daughters were born and later at Production Credit Association where she enjoyed working the Lowcountry farmers.   After the death of her husband in 1995, she ran for Town Council in 2002 and served on Council until her death.  An avid gardener, she was a long-time member of the Seed and Weed Garden Club.  She was the longest continuous member of Hampton United Methodist Church and co-chaired the Crocketville Cemetery Association. She was honored to be named the Hampton County Person of the Year in January, 2018.

Supporting her desire to live independently for the later years of her life in her beloved family home, the family would like to thank her caregiver, Angie Summers, for her loving support.

The service, celebrating her life, will be held Thursday, 11:00 am at the Hampton United Methodist Church with graveside services immediately following at Crocketville Cemetery, officiated by the Reverend Tyler Strange. Visitation is on Wednesday, August 8, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
