Alexander “Alex” Albert Jarrell, 25, a beloved son, friend, and resident of Johnstone Street in Hampton, SC, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at his residence.
Born November 16, 2000, in the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, SC, Alex was the beloved son of Gina Marie Holstein and Robert Franklin Jarrell. He was a 2019 graduate of Wade Hampton High School in Varnville, SC and most recently worked for Lowcountry Regional Water Systems but previously worked at various local stores such as Piggly Wiggly, Food Lion, and Dollar General Market. Many would remember his kind and friendly demeanor, his ability to make them smile, or the fact he would always lend a helping hand to those who needed it. Alex never met a stranger and was always able to speak up a conversation with anyone around him. He enjoyed video games, history, learning about various things such as foreign countries, and spending time with his many friends and beloved family. Alex also will be remembered by his family for his strong passion for music; playing the guitar, writing songs and singing. Additionally, he will be remembered for always being willing to fight for what he believed in – reflecting his Viking ancestry with direct lineage to Rollo of Normandy; a connection that he was very proud of.
Alex attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hampton, where he assisted the priest as an alter server. He loved the church and had become well endowed in its rich history, beliefs, and aspects.
In addition to his mother, Gina M. Holstein, of Hampton, SC, and his father, Robert Jarrell, of Varnville, SC; Alex is survived by his maternal grandfather, Donald Wayne Garman of Hampton, SC; his paternal grandmother, Kathryn Prince Lyons of Early Branch, SC; his aunts and uncles: Sara Holstein Graves of Charleston, SC, James B. (Angela) Garman of Detroit, MI, Richard E. Jarrell, Jr. of Smoaks, SC, Stephen A. Jarrell of Furman, SC; his cousins, Carolyn Graves (Zach) Belgie of Cross, SC and Eleanor Holstein Lee of Glouchester, VA; his beloved canine companion, Otto; his best friends and “brothers”, Gabriel (Audrey) White of Walterboro, SC and Charles (Aleighya) Long, Jr. of Estill, SC, and his special friend, AnFisha P. Alekseevra of Russia. There are also many other extended relatives and friends who survive.
Alex was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Albert E. Holstein and Marion Albecker Garman, and his paternal grandfather, Richard E. Jarrell, Sr.
A Memorial Mass will be 1 PM Saturday, October 3, 2026, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church located at 703 5th St. E., Hampton, SC 29924 conducted by Father Luis Serrano. Burial will follow in the Hampton Cemetery on Holly St. E., Hampton, SC 29924.
Visitation will be from 11 AM – 12:30 PM Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, Hampton Chapel, located at 300 Mulberry St. W., Hampton, SC 29924.
The family would also like to thank everyone for the prayers and invite those that have been wanting to bring meals or dishes to the family to please bring them to the social hall of St. Mary’s Catholic Church after 11 AM the day of the service. The family also invites anyone who would like to join them in the church social hall after the services for fellowship and food – or even just to stop by and share a memory of Alex.
The family would also like to suggest that those who wish send memorials to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to the Hampton County Animal Shelter.
Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home is assisting the Jarrell family during this time.
