Mrs. Frankie Bishop Gooding, 87, of Hampton, SC, widow of Douglas H. Gooding, died Friday evening, June 22nd, 2012.
Mrs. Gooding was the daughter of the late George Frank Bishop and Cynthia Altman Bishop. She was educated in the public schools of Hampton County and graduated in 1941. That summer she was chosen Miss Coastal Empire at the Hampton County Watermelon Festival. She attended Rice Business College in Charleston, SC. Mrs. Gooding started her career in 1944 as a Secretary to the Superintendent of Education in Hampton County. She worked for three superintendents during her thirty-five year career, and was active in the First Baptist Church of Hampton where she served as Treasurer for many years. She was a charter member of the Seed and Weed Garden Club and served as the secretary for many years, and also served as the secretary for the Hampton Cemetery Association.
She is survived by one son Douglas Fay Gooding and wife Sandra, one sister: Grace Bishop Gooding, three grandsons: David, Craig (Angie), and Lance (Mandy), four great grandchildren: Will, Anna, Rich, and Barnes Gooding all of Hampton.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 25th at 11 A.M. in the First Baptist Church of Hampton directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home. Visitation will be in the church social hall beginning at 10 A.M. prior to services. Burial will follow in the Hampton Cemetery.
