Mr. Robert James Mayhorn, 91, died Saturday evening Feb. 18th, 2012 at his residence in Hampton after an extended illness.

Born Nov. 29th, 1920 in Wilkinsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Allen Binckney Mayhorn and Mary Eisenberg Mayhorn. From 1942 until 1946, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp, participating in the landing and occupation of Okinawa. After returning home, he worked with the Westinghouse Corporation as a Financial Analyst, retiring after 44 years. While living in Cheektowaga, NY from 1950 - 1967, he was the Treasurer of the Cleveland Hill School District and was a member and treasurer of the Cleveland Drive Presbyterian Church. After relocating to Hampton with the Westinghouse Corporation, he was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church, serving as the Treasurer, was a member of the Men’s Club, the Scholarship Committee and was a Sunday School Teacher. He was a faithful fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates, was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather to his three daughters and three granddaughters.

He was married to the late Helen Covert Mayhorn for 65 years and is survived by his three daughters: Marjorie Thomas of Hampton, Cynthia Hall and husband Howard of Cary, NC, and Patricia Sparks and husband Tom of Rock Hill, SC, as well as his three granddaughters: Jocelyn Boatwright and husband Darren, Brittany Doncaster and husband Bill and Rebecca Hall. He was predeceased by his step-mother, Alice Mayhorn, his identical twin Ralph Preston Mayhorn and his elder brother Allen Carl Mayhorn.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012 at 11 AM in the chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton, conducted by Rev. E. Rossiter Chellis. Burial will follow in the Hampton Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home located at 300 Mulberry Street West, Hampton, SC 29924 (803-943-3352) Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 PM and until the hour of the service on Wednesday.
